International Women's Day 2017

International Women's Day 2017

Educators will walk off the job on International Women’s Day

Early childhood educators are escalating their campaign for professional pay. On International Women’s Day – March 8 – educators at centres across the country will be walking off the job at 3:20 in the afternoon. 3:20pm marks the time that women in Australia effectively begin working for free as a result of the gender pay gap.

Is my child’s centre affected?

You would have been notified directly by your child’s educators. So if you haven't heard anything, then the answer is no! But you can show your support for those educators who are by doing some of the below actions under the community supporter section.

How can I participate if my centre isn’t walking off?

If your centre is not walking off, there are several ways to be part of the action.

1. Tell the Treasurer that educators deserve professional pay now!

You can record a message for the Treasurer by dialing 1800 870 649 and recording your voice message. This is a free call and messages will be forwarded to the Treasurer. Alternatively, you can e-mail him here

2. Send in an IWD selfie.

Take a photo with one of the posters here and post it on the Big Steps Facebook page with a message of support.

3. Call into talk back radio on Wednesday the 8th
