Goodstart member leaders from Queensland, Victoria and NSW travelled to Goodstart’s head office in Brisbane last week to meet with each state manager. Our leaders were keen to talk about the Big Steps Quality Matters campaign from their own personal perspective. This was the first time this group had the opportunity to address the Goodstart COO, Warren Bright, the National HR Manager Anne Crowley, and each of the state managers.
Jade Vander Mei, long term activist and diploma graduate from the Queensland Branch emphasized the low wages paid in the sector. She spoke about how she became a union member and an advocate for the Big Steps campaign.
Julie Kemp, Toddler Group Leader from the Victorian Branch, spoke about her union membership dating back to the ABC days, and the need to involve parents in the Big Steps Quality Matters campaign.
Susan O’Keefe is a director from NSW. She's also been a long standing leader in the current campaign. Susan spoke about the recommendations in the draft PCI report of most concern to her as a centre director and United Voice activist.
This was an important meeting for our members - we were grateful for the time we were given. United Voice and Good Start need to continue to work closely together at all levels of our respective organizations. This is the only way to achieve great outcomes for all young children.
